Vaccination Services

Our Clinic offers a one stop shop for all recognised UK vaccinations that deal with commonly known viruses and bacteria that are active in the UK.

Since 1 April 2022, GP practices in Scotland no longer have responsibility for providing vaccinations and patients have been advised not to contact their NHS GP practice about vaccinations as these have now been centralised in outreach clinics in public buildings and you will have to contact the NHS Vaccination Service to request an appointment at one of these centres.

In the UK we are fortunate to have what is known as “The Routine Immunisation Schedule” which is delivered to patients at various stages of their life or as required, which in general protects the majority of the UK population. However, for various reasons many young patients have missed some of these vaccinations, and may now wish to have these carried out. The same may apply to those who have arrived in the UK, at an age where they also may have missed these vaccinations.

We are committed to exceptional patient centred care at a time that suits you. We offer daytime, evening and weekend appointments for your convenience.

Our clinic can offer a quick access service for the following vaccinations.

  • BCG/ Mantoux (Tuberculosis)
  • Chickenpox
  • Seasonal Flu
  • HPV (Human Papillomavirus)
  • Men B (Meningococcal Group B Bacteria)
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella)
  • Vitamin B12 (Folate Deficiency Anaemia)
  • Shingles
  • Pneumonia
  • Rabies
  • Tetanus
  • Whooping Cough

If you have any concerns about your vaccination status or that of a family member, particularly children, please contact our clinic and speak to one of our staff members.

In the UK residents are fortunate that the NHS offers a programme of vaccinations to people throughout their entire life cycle and this is called “The Routine Immunisation Schedule” and you can view this by clicking on this Link – RIS (https://www.nhsinform.scot/healthy-living/immunisation/when-to-immunise )

For many reason, many people, children in particular can miss out on some of these vaccinations, however at Doc Plus we are able offer a catch up service where anyone who may have missed a routine vaccination can have this administered by us. There will be a cost associated with this so please check with the clinic for prices.

The simplest method is to contact your NHS GP who should have a record of all vaccinations you or your child have had as part of the standard “The Routine Immunisation Schedule” programme which is run for all UK residents. In some health authorities this can also be done via an app or an online appointment

If you are a frequent traveller and have used private services before you will have ben provided with a letter or a certificate confirming your vaccinations and the dates, they were administered. In some cases where travel is part of your work life you may have been issued with a “Vaccination Passport” which some medical providers issue and this allows you to keep track of you vaccinations.

Vaccines are safe. The UK long-standing vaccine programme ensures that vaccines are as safe as possible. Currently, the UK has the safest vaccine supply in its history. Millions of children and adults safely receive vaccines each year.

Serious side effects after vaccination, such as a severe allergic reaction, are very rare and our practitioners and clinic staff are trained to deal with them. The disease-prevention benefits of getting vaccines are much greater than the possible side effects for almost all patients. The only exceptions to this are cases in which a patient has a serious chronic medical condition like cancer or a disease that weakens the immune system or has had a severe allergic reaction to a previous vaccine dose.

Getting every recommended dose of each vaccine is vert important and you should never not complete the recommended course unless instructed by your GP. Dependent on which vaccination is required you may need more than one dose to build high enough immunity to help prevent disease or to boost immunity that fades over time. You may also receive more than one dose to make sure you are sufficiently protected if your system did not build up the expected level of immunity from a first dose, or to protect you against germs that change over time, like flu. Every dose is important because each protects against an infectious disease that can be especially serious for infants and very young children.

Certain vaccines are safe and recommended for women before, during, and after pregnancy to help keep them and their babies healthy. The antibodies mothers develop in response to these vaccines not only protect them, but also cross the placenta and help protect their babies from serious diseases early in life. Vaccinating during pregnancy also helps protect a mother from getting a serious disease and then giving it to her new-born.

However it is important if you are planning a family or may currently be pregnant that you inform your practitioner during your initial consultation.
