Medicals -Work Place

Many employers and occupations require strict workplace medicals to be taken regularly in order to guarantee the health and safety of the workforce and the public. Our clinic can offer a rapid access, fast turnaround service enabling you or your employees to get the assessments and certifications required to ensure your business continues to run smoothly.

All of our medicals are performed according to the industry requirements or in line with specific requirements set out by an employer, to determine the suitability and capability of a candidate for a new role or for an employee to continue in their current position.

Medicals are commonly required for professions such as drivers, healthcare workers, armed forces personnel, transport industry employees, staff working on ships (cruise ships & the merchant fleet) and those working offshore or in higher risk industries such as construction and forestry and for certain safety critical roles in other industries.

We are committed to exceptional patient centred care at a time that suits you. We offer daytime, evening and weekend appointments for your convenience.

In many cases, if an employee is traveling or working overseas, there may also be a requirement for one-off vaccinations or for the employee to be part of a routine vaccination program. Our travel vaccine clinic also offer these services, including travel vaccinations, to ensure the health and safety of your employees abroad.

For those working for government bodies, including the armed forces, there may be a requirement to have specific medical checks carried out known as CONDO and FRAME health assessments and we can offer these services.

If you are an employer and you think your business may benefit from these services please contact the Practice Manager for more details. If you are an individual and you want to  find out more about these  services call our clinic and speak to one of our staff members.

We can offer medical assessments for “Safety Critical” roles which may be required across an array of different industries, examples of roles that would require a safety critical medical includes:

  • Drivers
  • Employees who work at height
  • Scaffolders
  • Plant Operators
  • Fork-lift Truck Operators
  • Confined space workers

It is crucial to ensure that if you are employed or intend to take up such a job, that you do not suffer from any medical condition or are undertaking any medical treatment which has the likelihood of causing incapacity, a sudden loss of consciousness, or have an effect on awareness, concentration, balance or coordination, or substantial limitation of mobility, that may cause an accident or be detrimental to your health.

Your employer may refer you for such a medical or if you are self-employed, we can offer this service to you on an individual basis.

Some employers recognise that their most valuable assets are their staff, and they take their responsibilities towards them very seriously. The job for which you are be being recruited for may have certain requirements that may present physical challenges, or perhaps it may involve extensive travel, or it may be a high-profile position which carries a certain amount of responsibility and potentially some stress.

It is important for the safety of the new employee, the existing employees and potentially for any customers of the business they may come into contact with that they have the requites skills and capabilities take on a new role for which they are being hired.

The medicals that we offer are tailored to meet the requirements of a specific employer or are set medicals that are required for industry sectors.

There are several jobs where a medical certificate is required which can be specified either by the DVLA of by a local Authority.

D4 Medical – Drivers who are required to have a D4 medical include those who hold a commercial driver’s licence, such as lorries, coaches, buses, and taxis, or those who have certain medical conditions that may affect their ability to drive safely. This includes conditions such as diabetes, epilepsy, and heart conditions.

If you fall into the above category, you can contact us to organise you medical.

There is a new organisation called Offshore Energies UK (OEUK), which used to know as Oil and Gas UK (OGUK), which requires workers in the Oil & Gas industry to have medical checks to ensure they are suitable to work offshore.

  • Review of the OGUK medical health questionnaire.
  • Physical examination and baseline measurements
  • Urinalysis Test
  • Vision Test
  • Hearing Test (Audiometry)

  • Some Companies require an additional drug and/ or alcohol screen. Please make sure you understand what your Company requires.

When you book an appointment with us, we will run through what the test involves for your specific circumstances and let you know what you need to bring with you.

Your certificate will be issued on the day if the practitioner deems you fit; it will be given to you at the end of your appointment to take away.

The certificate is valid for two years, however if you have any medical conditions that may require ongoing review, it is possible the certificate may be issued for a shorter period.

We can put together individually tailored, health checks and screening that is specific to your business needs, on an agreed frequency, such as annually, bi-annually, etc., which will offer both reassurance and health improvement opportunities for your employees

Our employee health assessments are designed to give your staff a better understanding of their health, wellbeing, and risks. They include checks and discussions on the day, about both their physical health and mental wellbeing and we can organise to see them on an ongoing basis to address and issue they may be dealing with.

If you would like to set up such a programme for your key staff, please call our clinic and talk to our practice manager for more details.
